What should the Saints do with these pending free agents?

The 2022 season has not gone according to plan for the New Orleans Saints, as they're 2-5 and their season looks to be a lost cause. Twenty players are slated to hit free agency for the black and gold so the team is going to have their hands full with who to keep and who to let walk.

Let's take a look at some of the biggest names hitting the free agent market for New Orleans and discuss whether the team should keep or cut them loose and if they'd even be able to keep them if they wanted to.

Marcus Davenport

What a rollercoaster of a career for Davenport. After the Saints spent a first-round pick on him (and traded up to do so), Davenport repaid them by playing like garbage for the first three years of his career.

The Saints then surprised a lot of people by picking up Davenport's fifth-year option. It looked like a genius move by them when he had a stellar fourth year in the league but now, he's resorted back to playing poorly.

Spotrac has Davenport's market value at four years $93 million with an annual salary of $23.2 million. The Saints should absolutely not pay Davenport that kind of money and I'd be shocked if he ends up getting a contract like that after his disappointing 2022 season so far.

Deonte Harty

It felt like the Saints would for sure keep Harty past this season but he hasn't been his usual self in 2022. He eventually landed on IR, which could have explained some of his issues but Harty is probably not going to be worth the three-year $29 million contract that Spotrac projects him to earn this offseason.
