The New Orleans Saints recently signed guard Yasir Durant to the practice squad in a move to add offensive line depth.

On Tuesday, the Saints released reserve guard Drew Desjarlais to make room for Durant to join the practice squad.

Durant was waived by the New England Patriots during final roster cuts and likely won't see the field all that much this season. He joins fellow Saints guards Andrus Peat, Cesar Ruiz, Calvin Throckmorton, and Wyatt Davis.

Saints boost offensive line depth by signing guard Yasir Durant in 2022

Durant, a formerly undrafted player, featured in 11 games with the Kansas City Chiefs in his rookie season and joined the Patriots in 2021. He only has two starts in his career and will look to develop his pass-protection skills on the Saints practice squad with the hopes of assuming rotational duties or even becoming a starting-caliber lineman.

NOLA's offensive line hasn't performed up to par in recent weeks, though there's still reason to be optimistic.

Durant adds mere backup depth to the unit in 2022, which is generally a safe bet considering how much injuries devastated the O-line unit last season.

Down the road, New Orleans could heavily benefit from the Durant signing. For now, the primary focus is getting more production out of the starting offensive line.
