Round 2 Pick 43: Tyler Booker - Guard, Alabama

With their second-round pick, the Saints fill in a position of need with the selection of Alabama’s Tyler Booker. Booker was the full-time starter at left guard for the Crimson Tide this past season. He has starting experience and would help the Saints fill a position that they desperately need to.

The two players who have started at left guard in the past few years are James Hurst and Andrus Peat. James Hurst just retired this offseason and Andrus Peat recently signed a contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. This has left the Saints a hole that needs to be filled at left guard.

They recently signed Lucas Patrick who has some positional versatility on the interior. In addition to Patrick, they could put second-year player Nick Saldiveri to fill in. Both of these players come with some question marks. It would make sense for the Saints to invest in their possible guard of the future with Tyler Booker.

If the Saints want to be competitive, it would make sense to invest heavily in the trenches. They have done that in recent years but the selection of Tyler Booker could help them succeed in years to come.
