Updated Saints injury report for Week 4 is still concerning despite a positive update
The release of the first injury report for Week 4 was the worst day of the New Orleans Saints season. The team was already coming off a Week 3 loss, then it was announced a ton of key players were dealing with injuries, with many of them missing Wednesday’s practice because of their injuries. Ahead of the first game against the Atlanta Falcons this season, that’s not what fans wanted to hear.
The updated injury report, released on Thursday, did have a couple of positive developments, but overall, things are still looking gloomy for New Orleans.
Saints injury report entering Week 4
Player (Position) | Injury | Wednesday’s practice status | Thursday’s practice status |
---|---|---|---|
Derek Carr (QB) | Left Groin | Full practice | Full practice |
Taysom Hill (Everything) | Chest | Full practice | Full practice |
D'Marco Jackson (LB) | Calf | Limited practice | Limited practice |
Khalen Saunders (DT) | Calf | Limited practice | Limited practice |
Landon Young (OT) | Foot | Limited practice | Full Practice |
Alvin Kamara (RB) | Hip/Ribs | Did not practice | Limited practice |
Demario Davis (LB) | Hamstring | Did not practice | Did not practice |
Cesar Ruiz (OL) | Knee | Did not practice | Did not practice |
Alontae Taylor (CB) | Illness | Did not practice | Full practice |
A.T. Perry (WR) | Hamstring | Did not practice | |
Cedrick Wilson Jr. (WR) | Ankle | Limited practice |
The best news is star running back Alvin Kamara returned to practice. Dealing with a hip injury and injured ribs, the veteran only had a limited practice. Still, that’s much better than being absent for a second day. Along with Kamara, defensive back Alontae Taylor also returned, but he had a full practice.
The bad news is Demario Davis and Cesar Ruiz still aren’t practicing, and the injury report got two new names. Wide receivers A.T. Perry and Cedrick Wilson Jr. we’re both added to the list. Perry missed practice entirely with a hamstring injury, and Wilson was limited with an ankle injury.
Those are two important names, because the Saints really need someone to step up as a consistent WR3. Everyone thought it’d be Perry, but he hasn’t appeared in a game this season. Depending on the severity of this hamstring issue, his debut may not come in Week 4 either.
The biggest concern as game day gets closer is definitely the offensive line. Starting center Erik McCoy is already on IR after groin surgery, and Cesar Ruiz has missed back to back days of practice. If New Orleans has to start two new lineman on Sunday, the game could get ugly.
