Possession wide receiver

A possession wide receiver hasn’t been a major need for the Saints ever since they drafted Michael Thomas in 2016. He has been one of the best in the game since being selected by the Saints. Now, Thomas has officially been designated as a post-June 1 cut. He will not be a part of the Saints next year. Now a possession receiver is a massive need for them this offseason.

The Saints took steps toward solving this position with the addition of Cedrick Wilson Jr. Although not a flashy signing Wilson should have a solid impact for the Saints this year. He has experience in a Shanahan-style offense and could thrive this year in New Orleans.

Even with the signing of Wilson the Saints should still add receivers to the room. Hunter Renfrow and Tyler Boyd have both been widely talked about as being great additions to the team. The NFL draft could produce a great piece as well, such as a Xavier Legette or a Keon Coleman. All of these options would be very beneficial in 2024.

A.T. Perry isn’t to be counted out of this conversation as well. Last year, Perry had some amazing plays where he went up over a defender to get the ball. If he does want to grow into this role he will have the opportunity this coming season.

A possession wide receiver is crucial for the Saints to obtain going into next year. Having a safety net for Derek Carr would make the offense easier for Carr to operate when under pressure. This is a huge need but there are plenty of options available, so the Saints should address it.
