The good news for the New Orleans Saints was that they tied for second in the NFC South in 2022. The bad news is they also tied for last as they were 7-10 as were the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. Oddly enough, they were also just one game out of first with the Tampa Bay Bucs winning the division with a record of 8-9.

With their eyes set on the South title in 2023, the Saints went out and attempted to fill several holes on their roster this offseason. They now feel good about their standing in the division but with the extra competition comes more players on the bubble.

Here we look at three once-promising prospects that enter training camp in danger of not making the final cut.

3. Malcolm Roach, DT

Undrafted out of Texas in 2020, Malcolm Roach quickly proved to be a solid run defender for New Orleans. In fact, he entered 2021 with some high expectations as a predicted breakout star.

He never did break out though and has struggled to get the job done in recent years. A restricted free agent this offseason, the Saints weren't quick to bring him back and the two sides didn't come to terms on a new deal until right before the NFL Draft.

New Orleans was trying to re-tool their defensive line as they let two starters walk in free agency and signed Nathan Shepherd and Khalen Saunders to fill the void. They then selected Bryan Bresee from Clemson in the first round of the draft.

That could leave Roach on the outside, looking in, especially since he's a 290-pounder that doesn't bring the heat as a pass rusher.
