Teams who wish they had Sean Payton as their coach after brutal Week 5

The New Orleans Saints are in year one of the post-Sean Payton era and no one thinks he's going to stay away from coaching for long.

Which teams could have really used Payton after some rough Week 5 outings?

Denver Broncos

Playing on Thursday Night Football meant that everyone got to watch the Broncos get embarrassed by the Colts (well, both teams were embarrassing) and the Broncos continued to be a hot topic around the water cooler until the games kicked off on Sunday.

Nathaniel Hackett is just five games into his head coaching career and it hasn't gone well. Russell Wilson also hasn't played well but one would have to think that if Payton was the head coach in Denver that Wilson would be playing better.

Hackett might end up being one-and-done in Denver and if he is, don't be shocked if the Broncos ring up the Saints to see what it'd take to land the head coach.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are a very different team from the others on this list because they went to the Super Bowl just eight months ago. A lot of Bengals fans would argue, however, that the team made it to the Super Bowl in spite of Taylor and not as a result of his coaching.

Week 5 was especially brutal for Cincinnati, as the play-calling against the Ravens was abysmal. When the Bengals were on the goal line looking to go ahead in the second half, Taylor called a series of poor plays that resulted in zero points going on the board for the stripes.

The Bengals feel like they're one competent coach away from being the best team in the AFC and Payton could be that guy for them.

Carolina Panthers

This would never happen since the Panthers are in the Saints' division but just imagine how much better Carolina would be with Payton as their head coach. Baker Mayfield hasn't played well during his inaugural season with the Panthers but you'd have to think that Payton could help call plays that would allow Mayfield to utilize his strengths more.

We've seen how good offenses can be under Payton with strong running backs too so he'd love having someone like Christian McCaffrey on his roster. The Panthers could only dream of having Payton as their coach since NOLA would never trade him there but man -- They certainly could have used him this past weekend.

These three teams had rough outings in Week 5 and their head coaches looked clueless during the losses. I thought about including teams like the Chargers and Colts but both teams won and Frank Reich doesn't appear to be the problem in Indianapolis. As for Brandon Staley and the Chargers, they won the game but Staley made a boneheaded move late in the game that could have cost them a win.

While Saints fans would love to see Payton either stay out of coaching or come back and coach them, it does feel inevitable that he'll be coaching elsewhere in the foreseeable future.
