If the New Orleans Saints decide to spend one of their early draft picks on a quarterback, Tanner McKee of Stanford might make a lot of sense for them. The Saints don't have a first-round pick as of now, meaning their first choice won't come until the second round.

McKee could be an option for the Saints in the second round if he's on the board when they go to make their first pick of the draft.

Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report wrote up an article on the second and third-tier quarterbacks in this upcoming draft and said the Saints would be a good fit for McKee.

"The New Orleans Saints have showed over time that the system once orchestrated by Sean Payton and now Pete Carmichael can thrive with a true pocket passer, whether it's Drew Brees or even Jameis Winston for a time. Besides, New Orleans doesn't own a first-round pick in this year's draft and McKee's value during the second day may be very tempting as the franchise moves past its current quarterback setup."

Could Tanner McKee make sense with the New Orleans Saints?

Something in Sobleski's blurb that needs to be pointed out is that Pete Carmichael might not end up being the offensive coordintor in New Orleans in 2023 and beyond. The Saints gave him a chance this year but the offense lacked firepower down the stretch. It wouldn't be crazy if the team went in a different direction at offensive coordinator this offseason.

That being said, McKee is still someone who could make sense with the Saints. He's probably not a quarterback that I'd throw out there in Week 1 but if the team opts to re-sign Andy Dalton, McKee could learn a lot from the Red Rifle while holding the clipboard each week.

While McKee's career at Stanford started off great and tapered off, Sobleski notes in his article that a lot of that is due to Stanford's program going downhill during the quarterback's time there. He notes that the Cardinal didn't bring in great talent in the final few years of McKee's career and that would not be a problem in New Orleans, as he'd have talented receivers and Alvin Kamara as his running back.
