Sean Payton continues to help out Saints even in leaving
Even with Sean Payton out of town, he is still finding ways to help the New Orleans Saints. His departure to the Denver Broncos helps the Saints in a big way.
Let's get this out of the way early. Obviously, the New Orleans Saints would be thrilled if Sean Payton was still their head coach. That's not shade on Dennis Allen, especially since the Saints won more games than they had any business winning in 2022, that's just facts.
Still, even with Payton no longer patrolling the Superdome sidelines, he still managed to help the Saints franchise out in a major way.
In case you hadn't heard, the Saints traded Payton's services as well as a 2024 third-round pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the 29 overall pick in this year's draft and their second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While it may not be a Jon Gruden-level haul, it's still great compensation.
The fact of the matter is this. The Saints are in the first round once again. They would have had the 10th overall pick in the draft, but that now belongs to the Philadelphia Eagles. It's safe to say that's all that needs to be said about that. With the new first-round pick though, as late as it may be plus the little something-something on the side, the Saints now have capital to try and maneuver and build their roster with more young talent to go with what they already have, while they get their salary cap situation under control.
Make no mistake about it, this is a big win for the New Orleans Saints. The fact that the greatest coach the franchise has ever known is still finding ways to help the franchise out is something that should be applauded, and fans should be feeling just a little better about the present, and future.
