Saints would be crazy not to pursue Jauan Jennings, as he would help improve offense
As the NFL prepares for a new league year, the New Orleans Saints are thinking about what they must do this offseason to evolve into a contender. New Orleans started that process by reshaping its offensive staff, hiring Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator, as well as several other assistant coaches.
The next step for the Saints is adding new players. New Orleans will do that through the 2024 NFL Draft and free agency. Despite the Saints being a projected $84 million over the salary cap, they will still be active in free agency. New Orleans will find a way to make the money work and target players that should make the team better.
One player that would make the Saints better is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Jennings, coming off a phenomenal Super Bowl game, is set to be a free agent this offseason and New Orleans would be crazy not to pursue him.
Jauan Jennings is a great fit for the Saints offense
Jauan Jennings’ skill can often go overlooked. Playing in San Francisco the last the four years, his entire career, he’s been on an offense with Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle. With weapons like that, there’s no wondering why Jennings only caught 19 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown this past season.
However, Jennings is better than his numbers, and if he goes to a new team this offseason, he’ll have the chance to prove that. The Saints should want to be the team where Jennings showcases his talent. New Orleans will likely lose Michael Thomas this offseason, so it will need to add another receiver to play alongside Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and AT Perry. Additionally, Jennings is familiar with Saints’ new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who served as San Francisco’s pass game coordinator this past season.
Jauan Jennings has showed that when targeted, he can produce. In 2022, when he was targeted 56 times, he hauled in 35 receptions for 416 yards and a touchdown. He’ll certainly get targets in New Orleans. The great thing, though, is that Jennings is useful on the field even when he isn’t being targeted. He’s a terrific blocker and that’s definitely something the Saints need as they try to improve their rushing attack.
With New Orleans’ emphasis on the offensive side of the ball this offseason, let’s hope that continues into free agency with the signing of Jauan Jennings.
