Saints vs. Chargers prediction and odds for NFL preseason Week 2

The Chargers beat up on the Rams last week, but the Saints are a lot deeper, especially at the most important position on the field.

The New Orleans Saints did it, they knocked off the defending champions. Only, it was with Shane Buechele at quarterback not Patrick Mahomes, so I have a feeling that helped. The Saints took a 26-24 win in Week 1 of preseason and now have a matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

LA took down LA last week. The Chargers beat the Rams 34-17 behind Easton Stick. We’ve seen a bit of Derek Carr for the Saints, but none of Justin Herbert. We’ll be betting on backups against this week, so let’s get into the matchup.

Saints vs. Chargers prediction and pick

Despite the win last week, Branden Staley isn’t particularly competitive in the preseason. He is 2-5 overall and typically doesn’t play many starters. As is often the case with coaches from the Sean McVay tree.

We’ll likely be seeing a lot more of Easton Stick and Max Duggan at quarterback, a winning formula in Week 1 of the preseason.

The Chargers scored very easily on the Rams, but McVay’s team is one of the weakest in terms of depth, they’ve had almost no draft picks and are composed of a ridiculous amount of undrafted free agents.

Even if Derek Carr doesn’t see much more action, the Saints have Jameis Winston to take more snaps. He went 11/13 for 92 yards and a touchdown while Jake Haener went 10/17 for 105 yards, a touchdown and a pick. The Saints will also want to see more from Kendre Miller, Duggan’s former teammate at TCU.

I like New Orleans in this one. They’re deeper at the positions that matter, particularly QB.
