Saints steal a linebacker off the Jaguars' practice squad
The New Orleans Saints have made some moves ahead of their Week 16 tilt with the Cleveland Browns. This 5-9 Saints squad might be down but they're not out of the NFC South playoff hunt yet. They need to win out to have any hopes of winning the division and thus, making the playoffs.
The team made some moves this week to help with the depth situation. First, they were sadly forced to place guard Cesar Ruiz on IR, which is a bummer. Ruiz had been playing well this season after not performing well in years 1 and 2.
To offset the move of Ruiz going to IR, the Saints signed Ty Summers away from the Jaguars practice squad. Summers was a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Packers out of TCU and played with them for three seasons before spending most of the 2022 season with the Jaguars before the Saints plucked him off their practice squad. He appeared in three games this season and had four combined tackles.
Saints sign Ty Summers to 53-man roster
New Orleans also signed Nephi Sewell to their practice squad and waived Kenny Young. They signed Sewell as an undrafted free agent following this year's draft.
Summers probably won't be anything more than a special teamer during his potential short stay in New Orleans but it's smart for the Saints to see if there's anything there. Kaden Elliss has played well this season and will likely be a hot commodity in free agency as a result so looking for linebacker depth in these potential final three games is a good move on NOLA's end.
