It's 2022 and the New Orleans Saints need wide receiver help again. Could a popular free agent soon be clad in black and gold?

Odell Beckham Jr. has been rumored to join a handful of teams including the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, and most recently, the Dallas Cowboys.

The 2021 Super Bowl champion clearly wants to sign with a playoff contender, and right now, the Saints don't exactly meet his standards. Yet there's no harm in dipping a toe in the free agency waters, and Beckham Jr. would no doubt serve as a quality deep threat for New Orleans.

With a 3-5 record and sitting third in the NFC South, the Saints aren't as enticing a destination as, say, the Bills, yet they do have a few things going for them.

NOLA is coming off a huge win against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, and that victory could signal a turning point in the Saints' underwhelming season so far.

OBJ is a slightly out-of-reach target for NOLA Saints in 2022

Alvin Kamara is getting hot, Chris Olave looks like a dependable wideout threat, and NOLA's defense appears to be clicking again.

With Michael Thomas out for the rest of the season, the Saints may have their eye on a few elite receiver options including OBJ. Beckham Jr. joined the Los Angeles Rams late in the 2021 season and memorably helped keep the offense going in the postseason.

Beckham recorded 288 yards and two touchdowns in four playoff games last year and seems on track to sign with a team by late November or early December. His only knock is that he's recovering from an ACL injury; nonetheless, he could potentially step right into an WR1 role in New Orleans, complementing Olave and Landry nicely.

That all being said, the odds of OBJ landing with the Saints are admittedly low. He has repeatedly stressed that he wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, and until the Saints can find consistent offensive rhythm, they don't belong in that category.

By all means, the Saints should try as hard as they can to bring OBJ to New Orleans, but keep expectations to a minimum.
