5. Ben Johnson, Offensive Coordinator, Detroit Lions

Finally, we come to arguably the top head coaching candidate going into the 2024 offseason. The Detroit Lions have far exceeded expectations over the last year and a half, especially on offense. And, that can be entirely attributed to offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Last offseason, the Carolina Panthers wanted to interview Johnson for their vacant head coaching position, but Johnson ultimately turned the opportunity down in order to stay with Detroit just one more year. This season, Johnson's decision looks as though it is paying off. The Lions are one of the top teams in the NFC and their offense ranks 2nd in yards per game, 6th in passing, 6th in rushing and 8th in scoring.

Jared Goff has been playing excellent football, overall, for the last season and a half. And again, he has Johnson to thank. The scheme and overall play calling from Johnson is some of the smartest there is in football today.

I would certainly love to see what Johnson could do in New Orleans, and if he could turn Chris Olave into one of the best receivers in the game, because Olave definitely has that type of potential. The Saints have plenty to work with offensively, and Johnson would be able to take full advantage.
