A Saints’ quarterback prospect has drawn comparisons to multiple New Orleans QBs
With the 2024 NFL Draft approaching, some analysts believe the New Orleans Saints could select a quarterback in the middle rounds. With Derek Carr currently the team’s starting quarterback, the Saints aren’t looking for a starter, but they could be looking for a successor. That’s why some people believe New Orleans could use their second-round pick on a quarterback.
If that happens, one of the quarterbacks that the Saints could select is Oregon’s Bo Nix. Nix is grouped with the second-tier of quarterbacks in this year’s draft and the expectation is that he’ll go in the middle rounds. As analysts evaluate Nix, he has drawn several comparisons. Oddly, Nix has been compared to three different quarterbacks that have played for the Saints.
Derrik Klassen, who covers the draft for Bleacher Report, recently shared his evaluation for Bo Nix. Along with the evaluation, Bleacher Report asked who was the best pro comp for Nix. The four options were Andy Dalton, Drew Brees, Derek Carr, and other. Those three quarterbacks all spent time in New Orleans, and as Saints fans know, they’re all very different.
Bo Nix compared to Drew Brees, Derek Carr, and Andy Dalton
For what it’s worth, fans were allowed to vote on who they thought was the best comp for Nix. Dalton received 34.6% of the votes, Carr received 34.3%, Brees received 24.9%, and the remaining 6.2% went to other. While all these quarterbacks are pretty different, one common thread is that they get the ball out fast. However, they all even do that in different ways. Regardless, that’s one of the strength’s of Nix’s game, and likely the reason he has drawn comparison to the other three.
Nix played five years in college, three with Auburn and two with Oregon. Last season with the Ducks, his best year in college, Nix completed 77.4% of his passes for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns, and just three touchdowns. He also rushed for 234 yards and an additional six touchdowns.
The Saints have a few bigger needs than quarterback, but is fair to assume that Bo Nix is on New Orleans’ radar. It’ll be interesting to see if he ends up playing for the team like all of his pro comps did.
