Saints news right now and for the foreseeable future centers around Sean Payton and where he'll end up if he doesn't stick with the New Orleans Saints. Payton stepped away from the organization nearly a year ago but a return to coaching feels imminent.

Payton is still under contract with the Saints so any team that wants to hire him will have to give up what Saints fans are hoping is a king's ransom for his services. Teams such as the Broncos, Chargers, and Cowboys have already been linked to Payton for quite some time but only the Broncos are searching for a new head coach out of that bunch.

As of now, the Broncos, Colts, and Panthers are all looking for head coaches for 2023 and beyond and those teams along with teams such as the Cardinals, Commanders, and Texans could be in this bunch as well.

The Saints probably won't do much in the offseason until we know what's going to happen with Payton. He might decide to wait for the right job to open up rather than forcing something but if a team is willing to spend big for his services, why wouldn't he want to return?

Sean Payton trade rumors: Eight logical 2023 landing spots for longtime Saints coach [Cody Benjamin, CBS Sports]

The number one spot on Benjamin's list is surprisingly the Arizona Cardinals. While this wouldn't be a bad landing spot for Payton, they're not one of the teams frequently linked to him.

"They certainly wouldn't deal a top-five pick to acquire Payton, needing such capital to replenish an older, injury-prone lineup. But the presence of the polarizing Kyler Murray makes this an ideal landing spot for the ex-Saints coach, who's reportedly had his eye on the team for months. If anyone can reform the young QB to stardom, it might be him, and setting up shop in sunny Arizona probably doesn't sound too shabby, either."

As Benjamin mentions here, the Cardinals have a top-five pick but he says the team probably doesn't send that pick to New Orleans. That's the pick the Saints should demand if Arizona wants their former coach.

Sean Payton shares how he would fix struggling Broncos QB Russell Wilson [John Sigler, Saints Wire]

"“You correct flaws immediately, and then we don’t worry about how long the process is going to take,” Payton said, preaching patience. “In other words I’d want to cutup today, I’d want a cutup of all of Russell’s pass plays of 30 or more yards from the field, and I’d want to see ‘Are there are some schemes that he felt very comfortable with?'” "

Payton's quote from Sigler's article

Easier said than done, right? Throw in the fact that the Broncos don't have many draft picks or money for free agency after what they gave up to trade for and extend Russell Wilson and this job isn't appealing. If Payton truly thinks that Wilson is fixable, then maybe he's more intrigued by the Denver job than any of us would be if we were him.
