The New Orleans Saints currently hold the 14th-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That’s a spot that New Orleans can sit at comfortably and address one of its biggest needs. Many draft analysts see the Saints drafting an offensive tackle. With the tackle draft class being so deep, the Saints could easily land a top name at 14.

There’s also an argument for New Orleans to draft a top edge rusher or receiver. Whatever direction the Saints go, it’s clear that they can stay at 14 and land an elite prospect. However, there’s also a belief that New Orleans could be plotting a move to trade up.

Maurice Moton, in a recent piece for Bleacher Report, named five teams that could shockingly trade into the top 10 to draft a quarterback. One of the teams listed was the New Orleans Saints.

Will Saints target a quarterback in 2024 NFL Draft?

Moton made a compelling case for New Orleans trading up, arguing that Derek Carr clearly isn’t the long-term answer, and the Saints wouldn’t have to go far to get into the top 10. A trade into the back half of the top 10 could put New Orleans into position to draft the third or fourth quarterback of the class.

By most rankings, that would either be Jayden Daniels or JJ McCarthy, with guys like Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix also in the mix. All intriguing prospects for the Saints to look into. However, if New Orleans is going to trade away assets to draft a quarterback with a top-10 pick, it has to be someone that the franchise is sure about.

New Orleans is trying to win now; that’s clear by the age and contracts of the team. With that being the case, it’s hard to imagine the Saints passing up the opportunity to add a player that could immediately contribute to winning. While New Orleans definitely needs a quarterback of the future, it’s unlikely the team will find him in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
