Saints begin preparation for 2024 season, officially starting offseason program
It’s officially time to get back to work for the New Orleans Saints. On Monday, New Orleans started its offseason program. The program will consist of several phases, some voluntary, some mandatory, all leading up to training camp in late July. The offseason program is where the Saints will start to lay the foundation for what they hope is a successful 2024 season.
Saints offseason schedule
The first portion of the offseason program is voluntary workouts. This is exactly what it sounds like, a workout. While attendance isn’t mandatory, players are encouraged to show up, and for the most part, they do. The Saints, along with 25 other teams started their voluntary workouts on Monday, April 15. Teams with new head coaches have already started their programs.
After a few weeks, teams will be allowed to head to the field, but not for actual practices. They’ll be able to conduct on-field drills and walk throughs. Actual practices will start with OTAs. Each team is allowed a total of 10 OTAs. The Saints will have their OTAs on May 21-23, May 28-30, and June 3-6.
Like the workouts, OTAs are voluntary, but it’s important that players show up. It’s especially important for the New Orleans Saints this offseason, because they have a new offensive coordinator. With Klint Kubiak bringing a new offense, players need to be in attendance to learn the new system.
The only mandatory part of the offseason program is mandatory minicamp, which the Saints will hold June 11-13. The entire team will be present for the three days of practice. After those three days, New Orleans will send everyone on their way until the start of training camp in July. Once the Saints return for training camp, they’ll start the marathon sprint towards the end of the season.
