Saints 2025 mock draft heading into preseason Week 3: New Orleans solves a key issue
No, the 2024 NFL regular season hasn’t even started yet. Yes, the college season is just getting kicked off. That reality would lead some to believe it’s way too early to think bout the 2025 NFL Draft. However, it’s never to early for fans to start looking ahead.
Plenty of New Orleans Saints fans have already started to do that. While the Saints will determine their reality in the field, many analysts and fans are convinced New Orleans will have another disappointing season, and be forced to rebuild. While that’s not good, there are silver linings in rebuilds.
The main silver lining is landing talented young players for the franchise to build around. If the Saints have as bad as a season that people are predicting, they’ll land one of the best players in next year’s draft. Assuming New Orleans has a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, who would the franchise select?
The Saints would likely draft LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell.
Saints should have their eyes on 2025 prospect Will Campbell
Entering the 2024 college season, Will Campbell is regarded as one of the best players in college, if not the best. As an offensive lineman, he’s not going to have many highlight plays for the causal viewer or be in a Heisman race, but he will dominate. That’s exactly what he’s been doing since he entered college, starting at left tackle since his freshman year.
All experts expect Campbell to continue to thrive at the next level. That could happen with the Saints. New Orleans is currently rebuilding its offensive line, and drafted Taliese Fuaga in the first round of the 2024 Draft. While Fuaga looks like he’ll meet expectations, veteran tackle Trevor Penning, who’s currently starting at right tackle, is still struggling.
Unless Penning miraculously develops throughout this season, the Saints will be looking for a new tackle. Insert Will Campbell. If he does land in New Orleans, there will be questions about if he’ll play left or right tackle. Fuaga is currently starting at left tackle, but played right tackle in college. He could move back to the right side and let Campbell remain on the left, or Campbell could just go the right side. Long as the team has two good tackles, everything else will get figured out later.
