There is a position battle in New Orleans Saints training camp that is red hot, and upcoming preseason action should answer a lot of questions for the Saints.

There are several camp battles for certain spots in the lineup of the New Orleans Saints, and it seems like the majority are on the defensive side of the ball. One that is probably the hottest at the moment though, is the competition to see who will be starting at defensive end opposite Cameron Jordan for the Saints between Payton Turner and Carl Granderson.

Turner has been showing out so far in camp, which is a welcome sign in the building considering the Saints used their 28th overall pick in the 2021 Draft to bring him in, and the return of investment hasn't exactly been up to snuff... yet. Sometimes that happens though with defensive linemen, see Brandon Graham with the Philadelphia Eagles as a bit of a pipedream example.

Not to be outdone, Granderson has shown up to camp not in any mood to play around, but to play for keeps. Granderson has stated his intention to work on improving against the run, and to run faster in his own right coming into camp, and it's been evident almost immediately with him showing up to work having lost a little late. The slimmer version has been impressing to this point with his play.

While Jordan has been in the headlines recently now that it's official that he will be retiring as a member of the New Orleans Saints, the starting spot opposite him deserves its shine as well. Both players battling it out are worthy recipients of the prize, and it will be fun to watch along to see what happens. With preseason games right around the corner, a lot of our questions will soon be answered.

Next. Hunt and Barr. Two new signings. dark
