NFL analyst tries to dunk on the Saints but fails miserably
When it comes to sports, everyone has opinions. This time of the year, a few weeks before the start of the NFL regular season, a lot of people are trying to make their opinions known. There’s a risk to that though; you can end up being extremely wrong.
That was recently the case for former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert. After five years in the league, including three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Benkert has transitioned into the media space. Recently, he attempted to dunk on the New Orleans Saints and their fans.
Benkert went on a rant calling Saints fans delusional, because, according to him, New Orleans fans “believe their team is a Super Bowl team.” He even went as far as insinuating that Saints fans think Derek Carr is the guy. Anyone that’s actually familiar with the fanbase understands the hilarity of his entire spiel, because it couldn’t be further from the truth.
Kurt Benkert knows nothing about Saints fans
New Orleans fans will even admit they’re one of the most pessimistic groups in the league. That was evident all throughout the comments and quote responses of the post. Saints fans, and other fans who are familiar with the NFL social media streets were quick to point out how Benkert’s argument doesn’t align with reality.
However, like many people do when they’re getting cooked on social media, Benkert found a couple of posts to support his argument. Unfortunately for him, those people represent the minority of Saints fans presence online. Sure, there are always some fans that are relentlessly optimistic and have a blind loyalty to the team, but those individuals definitely aren’t a part of the loudest online contingent.
Where Benkert really misrepresented Saints fans was mentioning Derek Carr and Drew Brees in the same sentence. Carr is already polarizing enough; insulting the fanbase’s intelligence by connecting him to Brees in anyway is a sure-fire way to unite the fanbase against you.
He concluded this take by predicting New Orleans won’t win a lot of games this season. He went as far as saying he only sees one game on the schedule the team should win. By that point of the video, though, most likely stopped watching, or definitely didn’t care what else he had to say since he proved he didn’t know what he was talking about in regards to the Saints.
