Saints wide receivers showing why their poised to explode
The wide receivers of the New Orleans Saints are primed for a big season for a variety of reasons, and they have already shown flashes during Saints camp.
With Derek Carr now the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, hopes are high for this offense to take a step forward, and march side by side with the talented veteran defense. The young wide receivers for the Saints should be the ones to immediately benefit, and things are shaping up for them to do just that.
It also helps that Carr has been looking completely strapped this summer.
Be that as it may, the quarterback isn't the only one turning heads. The wide receivers for the Saints are expected of big things in 2023 and beyond, and they are already showing why. Chris Olave, who had a strong case to be the Offensive Rookie of the Year a season ago, is showing that he's not about to let a sophomore slump be in his future. He has been looking more lean, but also more solid and athletic, and so far it's been showing on the field
The other young whippersnapper with high expectations is Rashid Shaheed, seen by many as a breakout candidate both by the Saints or nationally. His speed has been evident all summer, both in OTAs and training camp, and Carr has been verbally and visibly excited about throwing the ball to him.
That's not even getting into the curious case of Michael Thomas, even if the prospect of him playing even three quarters of a season feeling like a perpetual pipe dream. Regardless of who is lined up at receiver once the real games start, they seem to be in an advantageous spot.
While that may pertain to fantasy football, fantasy football is still scored based on production. With the perceived weak division, and down year for the conference, coupled with the fact that the Saints missed out on the playoffs a year ago, it's no wonder their schedule is looking ripe for the picking.
Whether they thrive in fantasy football or reality, the New Orleans Saints are relying on their offense to take a step up in 2023. If their wide receivers look to be as good as they've shown so far, then we may be in for a fun ride in the Big Easy.
