Saints studs and duds from week two victory over Panthers
By Randy Gurzi
Saints Stud: Taysom Hill, QB/TE/RB
When Jamaal Williams went down with an injury New Orleans turned to a couple of players, including Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill.
The backup quarterback who also plays H-back and tight end wound up carrying the ball nine times and gained 75 yards. While Tony Jones, Jr. was the one who scored the touchdowns, it was Hill who continually moved the chains.
Hill also added one completion on one passing attempt for eight yards. While it's true he's not an elite passer, the Saints would be wise to allow him to throw more often. The only time Hill seems to get stopped is when the defense can sell out on the run. If they continue to use the threat of the pass when he's out there, it would really open things up.
Saints Dud: Jamaal Williams, RB
With no intention of trying to add insult to injury, the truth is — Jamaal Williams hasn't panned out thus far. In two games, he has 74 yards on 27 carries which is an average of just 2.7 yards per rush. On Monday, he was again struggling with 29 yards on nine carries before a hamstring injury sidelined him.
Williams will now miss time but thankfully for the Saints, they had several players step up in his absence. And they will need that to continue to happen with Alvin Kamara still serving a league suspension for one more week.
