Saints studs and duds from week two victory over Panthers
By Randy Gurzi
The New Orleans Saints are 2-0 on the season but there are some areas that need to be cleaned up in order for the Saints to keep up their winning ways.
They haven't been huge wins but they count the same. The New Orleans Saints dropped the Tennessee Titans in week one by a score of 16-15. Blake Gruppe was the Saints MVP of the game with the offense constantly stalling in the red zone, but it didn't matter since they picked up the win.
In week two, they were facing off against the Carolina Panthers — on the road — for one of two Monday Night Football contests. Again, the Saints did enough to win, holding on for a 20-17 victory.
They were able to overcome an injury to a starter but again had some trouble punching the ball in once they got to the red zone. But a win is a win and we now look back over the game with the studs and duds from week two.
Saints Stud: Rashid Shaheed, WR/KR
Rashid Shaheed is quickly becoming a fan favorite in New Orleans. In week one, he had 89 yards and a touchdown on five receptions. He added 11 yards on the ground and racked up 110 yards as a return man.
In week two, he continued to find the ball often — even if the overall numbers weren't as good. Shahid pulled in all four of his targets for 63 yards and had 47 yards on just two kick returns as well as 16 yards on his lone punt return.
With Michael Thomas and Chris Olave drawing a lot of attention (for good reason) Shahid has quickly become a trustworthy WR3 for New Orleans. He's also a dangerous return man who has done a good job of setting the offense up with solid field position.
