4 Saints players who won't survive training camp
By Ryan Heckman
The NFC South is one of those divisions that, by many accounts, is up in the air.
But, if you ask a New Orleans Saints fan, it's not really that complicated. The Saints have the most well-rounded, ready-to-compete roster in the division and it's not particualrly close. The quarterback position appears to be solved. Derek Carr has weapons. The defense should be an above average unit, as per usual.
The Saints are going to have no problem winning this division.
However, a few guys are going to have a problem surviving training camp and making this roster. There are four, in particular, we highlight who won't make it through.
1. Johnathan Abram, S
The safety position is a spot where the Saints are pretty well set, headlined of course by the hometown veteran, Tyrann Mathieu. Next to the Honey Badger is veteran Marcus Maye. The two of them are locked in as the starting safety duo, and behind them are another veteran and a rookie.
Behind Mathieu is fifth-round rookie Jordan Howden out of Minnesota, who gets to come in and learn from one of the best in the business. Then, behind Maye is veteran J.T. Gray. From there, it gets a little muddy. But, one guy I'm not betting on is former first-round pick Johnathan Abram.
The 2019 selection out of Mississippi State is part of that Raiders draft class that doesn't look so hot now, with Abram falling out of favor with Las Vegas and then playing for three separate teams last year. At this point, he's gone from a first-round talent to flaming out into what might be best labeled a "bust," in a hurry.
Abram's NFL career could be coming to a close real quick, barring a stunning turnaround during training camp.
