The NFL announced their nominees for the Walter Payton Man of the Year, and the New Orleans Saints are represented by a honey badger.

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is the most sought after award for players, as it takes into account what the player does both on the field to help their team, and off the field to help their community. Each team only gets one nominee per year, and we now know who got the call for the New Orleans Saints. It should come as no surprise who is up for the honor this year for the Saints.

The Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for the Saints in 2023 is none other than Tyrann Mathieu. And they say Honey Badgers don’t care huh.

The LSU product has called the area home for longer than he’s been wearing a Saints uniform, and his nomination feels like a natural selection.

The Saints defense has (for the most part) been the brightest spot in a season of relative darkness, and Mathieu has been one of the leaders of the unit. His passion for the game shines through on the field, and his passionate nature as a human (or badger) shines through with his work off of the field.

Should he receive this highest honor, Mathieu would become the second Saints player to win the award, joining Drew Brees, who split the award with LaDanian Tomlinson in 2006.

Congratulations to Tyrann Mathieu, and the nod is well deserved and earned. He makes the New Orleans Saints proud to have him, and this is the latest example. Time will tell if he gets to wear the patch on his jersey the rest of his career. One thing we know for sure though, is that the Honey Badger cares.
