Step 3: Find a QB in the 2023 or 2024 NFL Draft

The Saints need to stop thinking they're going to strike gold in free agency again and find another Drew Brees. It's time to go into the draft this year or next year with the intent of finding their franchise guy.

Since the team doesn't have a first-round pick this year, I would be okay with them waiting for next year. There are some quality Day 2 QBs like Hendon Hooker, Jarren Hall, Tanner Mckee, and K.J. Jefferson but it might be best to wait until 2024 to find the franchise signal-caller.

If the team decides to sign a bridge QB for a year and wait until next year, I would be okay with that. The 2024 QB class is loaded with talent, with the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Quinn Ewers.

The Saints could also trade up to get one of this year's top players, such as C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young. However, it would require a significant amount of draft capital, and mortgaging the team's future is what got the Saints into this mess in the first place. That's probably not ideal.

Many teams have struggled for a year or two while rebuilding, and it has worked out very well for them. The Cincinnati Bengals, for example, were terrible but became contenders after the right signings and draft picks. The Jets are a playoff team right now after years of turmoil. Even the Lions look more promising than the Saints.

If the Saints play their cards correctly, they could be back in the hunt in a few years.
