The New Orleans Saints have lost the top spot in the NFC South after falling to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12, but the good news is the battle for the division is likely going to go down to the wire.

In Week 13, they'll host the Detroit Lions with a chance to pull off a big upset that would go a long way in reclaiming the division lead. In this article, I'm going to break down everything you need to know to bet on the game.

Lions vs. Saints key players to watch

Detroit Lions

David Montgomery: The strength of the Saints' defense is their secondary, so the Lions' best chance at success is to run the ball with David Montgomery. Running the ball will also keep Jared Goff from turning the ball over, which has been an issue of his the past couple of weeks. Montgomery is averaging 4.9 yards per carry this season while scoring nine touchdowns.

New Orleans Saints

Alvin Kamara: With the Saints dealing with plenty of injuries at receiver, Alvin Kamara is going to be the key to their offense moving the ball, Whether it's on the ground or through the air, keep an eye on Kamara to carry the bulk of the work load, especially if Chris Olave can't go.

Lions vs. Saints prediction and pick

The Saints are my upset pick of the week and I'm betting on them to hand Detroit its second straight loss. The Lions' defense continues to have some issues and it's going to cost them in games where their offense isn't firing on all cylinders.

They're 18th in the NFL in opponent EPA/Play and 24th in opponent success rate. They're also 21st in opponent yards per play and they've been trending in the wrong direction in all three of those metrics.

While the Saints offense has some issues, their defense is still one of the better units in the NFL, especially against the pass. They're top 10 in virtually every statistic and if they cause some issues for Goff and company, this game is going to be winnable for New Orleans at home.
