Have we seen the last of Michael Thomas in a Saints uniform?

It looks increasingly likely that one of the greatest wide receivers the New Orleans Saints ever had is on borrowed time in his Saints uniform, maybe for good.

It's being both reported and speculated that since Michael Thomas will be missing yet another game for the New Orleans Saints, that we may never see the ultra-talented, and at times ultra-frustrating, wide receiver play for the Saints again.

It's easy to see why. For about the last five years there seems like theres always something between Thomas and the Saints. Sometimes it's injuries, sometimes it's comments, and most recently he was tweeting/posting on X during the Saints 33-28 defeat at the paws of the Detroit Lions in week thirteen.

Yes, he's been inconsistent, in more ways than one. That said, when it comes to his highs, man were they high. The highest of highlights of course being his 2019 season when he broke Marvin Harrsion's 2002 record for most catches in a season when he hauled in 149 balls. Those balls were good enough for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns. For his record-breaking effort, Thomas was awarded the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year award.

After that though, is when things started to go down hill as it pertains to Thomas and the Big Easy. He would go on to miss increasing amounts of time with injury, make a lot of noteworthy comments, and so on and so forth. Now that he's expected to miss the rest of the season, whether official at this moment or not, it's reasonable to expect he'll be moving on next year.

Even without all of that, the Saints aren't exactly sitting pretty salary wise, and letting Thomas walk, who despite all the inconsistencies we listed won't be much of a bargain, is pretty much a layup cap casualty.

This isn't meant to be a hit-piece though. Marques Colston owns pretty much every Saints receiving record, but if you said Thomas is the greatest wide receiver this franchise has ever called their own, you wouldn't get THAT much pushback, depending on who you asked of course. If this is the last we see of Thomas with the New Orleans Saints, it's been on heck of a ride.
