Saints fourth head-turner: Linebacker D'Marco Jackson

Alright we've spent enough time on the Saints offense, now let's take a peek at someone standing out on the defensive side of the ball, and wouldn't you know it, the player is another one that we didn't see coming.

The Saints 2022 fifth-round pick D'Marco Jackson out of Appalachian State has been lining up as the top linebacker beside Pete Werner, in the absence of Demario Davis while in three-linebacker sets. Zack Baun joined them to complete the trio, but what does this all mean?

Well, it is the belief of many outside of the Saints building that the team should bring in some sort of outside veteran presence to beef up their linebacker corps. The work that Jackson has put in seems to be putting a halt in that mindset, at least inside the building.

If this is anything to go off of, then Jackson appears to be penciled in as the third off-ball linebacker, which is a massive development in Jackson to not only make the final roster, but contribute while a part of it on the field. There is still a lot of offseason to go, but things are looking up for Jackson.

Speaking of, we can't emphasize enough how early it is. That said, in the NFL you can't ever take anything for granted, and any positive report coming out of the New Orleans Saints OTAs should be taken with both a grain of salt, but also an exciting first bite. Both can be true. While heads are turning thanks to these four players, they aren't alone, and it'll be fun to see what else happens has we get closer and closer to the 2023 NFL season.
