Jameis Winston has been a fan favorite in New Orleans ever since signing with the Saints in 2020. He may not have developed into the starting quarterback the Saints envisioned, but he was a great backup and was electric in the locker room. This caused many fans and media to rejoice when he got his chances.

This offseason, though, Winston inked a one-year deal to join the Cleveland Browns. The Saints are set to face the Browns, at home, in Week 11. This will set up the return of Jameis Winston. Although he’s not currently the starter, here is why it wouldn’t be surprising if he was.

Could Jameis Winston be starting when the Browns play the Saints?

The Browns current starting quarterback is Deshaun Watson, whom they traded for back in 2022. Ever since that, Watson hasn’t been the player that he was back with the Houston Texans. His inability to stay on the field has hindered his success while in Cleveland. In the past two years, he has played in only 12 games due to suspensions and injuries.

This past year, Watson suffered a season-ending injury in Week 10. Although the Browns are expecting him to be ready for the season opener, it isn’t guaranteed by any means that he will be able to stay healthy the whole season. This is how Jameis Winston could get his opportunities.

Although the Saints would have likely welcomed Winston back in New Orleans, it may have been a good choice to go elsewhere. He did have some opportunities while in the Big Easy. The past couple of years for him were a whirlwind, as he dealt with various injuries and limited playing time.

Cleveland offered Winston something that he couldn’t refuse, possible playing time. In his mind, he is still a quarterback who’s able to lead a team to the Super Bowl. Whether or not that’s true, Winston has the potential to prove himself in a different location this year. The Saints could have a chance to see it up close and personal when he returns in Week 11.
