The Falcons trading for Matthew Judon is troublesome for the Saints
On Wednesday, the Atlanta Falcons made a blockbuster move, trading a third-round pick for four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon. Sadly for the New Orleans Saints, this was a great move for Atlanta. Judon’s elite play will create a hurdle for the Saints in their matchups against the Falcons, especially if they can’t figure out the tackle position.
Matthew Judon is entering his ninth season in the NFL and has tallied up 66.5 sacks, 165 QB hits, and 87 TFLs. He is dangerous coming off the edge and doesn’t show signs of slowing down. He played in only four games last year due to a torn bicep, yet he still accounted for four sacks.
In 2022 and 2023 combined, he reached 28 sacks, which is up with the best in the game. Judon is a game wrecker if not planned for. With the questions the Saints have at the tackle position, he is an extremely dangerous threat whenever played against.
Saints must figure out offensive line issues with Matthew Judon in the division
The Falcons improving their pass rush makes it even more pivotal that the Saints offensive line is prepared. One of the most important players on this roster is now Trevor Penning. If he can’t produce, then it’s going to be tough for the Saints to find success. It would be difficult to find a starting caliber tackle at this point in the offseason.
Not all hope is lost, Trevor Penning is still a young player with all of the tools he needs to develop. In addition to that, new offensive line coach, John Benton, should aid the development of the third-year tackle. The Saints coaching staff has trust in Penning; hopefully, he proves them right, as he will be matched up against Matthew Judon twice a year.
