C.J. Gardner-Johnson unloads on the Saints and Derek Carr after Week 3 game

After falling to the Philadelphia Eagles, the New Orleans Saints were trolled by veteran defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who used to play for the Saints.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson has never been one to hold his tongue. The New Orleans Saints know that best because the team drafted him back in 2019, and had a front-row seat to all of his antics for his first three years in the league. Since New Orleans traded Gardner-Johnson in 2022, it has been on the receiving end of those antics.

After the Eagles defeated the Saints 15-12 on Sunday, the veteran defensive back had a lot to say. In his typical fashion, he was very demonstrative throughout the game, and a Philly win put the battery in his back to trash talk his former team.

NFL Network reporter Bridget Condon revealed that after the game, Gardner-Johnson screamed in the locker room, “They ain't no contenders, they're pretenders. They have Derek Carr remember that.”

C.J. Gardner-Johnson calls Saints pretenders

He was just getting started with that statement. Speaking with the media, Gardner-Johnson said the Eagles knew Derek Carr would eventually give them an interception. They had to wait until New Orleans’ final offensive drive, but Carr threw a pick that sealed the win for the Eagles.

Gardner-Johnson also spoke about his past with New Orleans, telling the media “they got rid of me, I ain’t get rid of them. It’s still in me, it’s still tatted on me,” while he lifted his jersey to display a Saints tattoo.

He even took things to social media, posting, “Yall favorite DB’s couldn’t chase a TE down,” with a few laughing emojis. He was referencing the game-changing play when Jalen Hurts found Dallas Goedert for a gain of 61-yards on a 3rd and 16. Goedert ran a drag route, and caught the ball a few yards beyond the line of scrimmage, but a collision between Saints defenders allowed him to get down the field and set up the game-winning score.

This tweet was likely a shot at Tyrann Mathieu, who Gardner-Johnson had a bit of a back and forth with this offseason over Madden ratings. Gardner-Johnson and his team won the game, though, so he gets to laugh and talk now. If the Saints don’t want him or anyone else talking trash and calling them pretenders, they need to bounce back and win more games.
