Derek Carr had a hilarious 'old man' moment during Saints-49ers game
Derek Carr might only be entering his second season as the New Orleans Saints starting quarterback but overall, it'll be his 11th NFL season, as he spent nine years with the Raiders franchise before joining the Saints last offseason.
While watching Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler battle to earn the title as Carr's backup for the 2024 season, he was asked when he knew he was the old man of the quarterback room. His answer was pretty hilarious.
"When neither of them have seen the movie Major League. That's when I knew. Are you kidding me? And I won't say which one but the other one hasn't seen Remember the Titans and so I just can't believe... I blame myself."
Derek Carr reveals when he knew he was the old man of the QB room
For those who are like Haener and Rattler and don't know, Major League was released in 1989. It stars a young Charlie Sheen and follows a fictional Cleveland Indians team who overcome hilarious obstacles to become contenders.
As noted earlier, Carr joined the Saints last year after spending nine years with the Raiders. Things didn't end well between him and his former team with him getting benched in the final stretch of the Raiders' regular-season. He joined the Saints in 2023 and the team finished with a winning record but it was mostly considered to be a disappointing year.
Haener joined Carr the same year as a fourth-round pick and the two immediately had something in common, both having played college ball at Fresno State (though not together). Haener didn't play at all during his rookie year and is battling it out for the QB2 spot with Rattler, who was a fifth-round pick this year out of South Carolina.
Rattler was once thought to be the next number one overall pick when he was playing at Oklahoma but a slice of humble pie was handed to him during the 2021 season. He eventually transferred to South Carolina where he finished out his college career and the Saints got him in round five.
Fans were pretty excited about adding Rattler to the quarterback room but both signal-callers struggled in the second preseason game. Carr's backup spot is wide open and maybe one of them should watch Major League to get ahead of the competition - just a suggestion.
