One of the best players on the New Orleans Saints roster has been sidelined with injury, but his return to the Saints has brought optimism regarding his status.

Since August 5th, the New Orleans Saints have been without arguably the best player on their entire team in linebacker extraordinaire, Demario Davis. The stud defender has been sidelined with a calf injury, but has since returned to the practice field, albeit in a limited capacity.

After not missing a snap throughout the entire 2022 season, Davis was the lone starter on the defnsive side of the ball that did not see action in the Saints' preseason opener when they hosted the defending Kansas City Chiefs in the Superdome. A game by the way, the defense, and team for that matter, put on a bit of a show for whatever that's worth.

Of course Davis is not expected to see any playing time for the preseason, and that is ok. Davis has yet to miss a regular season game in his career, so the Saints taking a precautionary approach and easing him back is absolutely the right way to go.

As if excitement for the regular season to start wasn't at a fever pitch already after the fireworks show Derek Carr and the rest of the crew put on, it's about to reach another level. Davis is one of the leaders of the team, and one of it's best players. Now, he is back at practice.

It should be noted that we don't officially know what the status of Demario Davis will be when the New Orleans Saints take the Superdome field to play the Tennessee Titans in their regular season opener. That said, with his return coming now, there is growing optimism that he will be out there, like the ironman that he is.
