Daniel Jeremiah's first mock draft has Saints finally taking first-round quarterback
The offseason has been here for a while for the New Orleans Saints, which means Saints might as well start looking at mock drafts, and this one in particular.
Not all NFL mock drafts are looked at equally. Depending on the platform, some are held to higher esteem than others, and that is certainly the case with Daniel Jeremiah. He has essentially been the draft expert over at NFL.com, and fans of the New Orleans Saints should get a load of his first official mock draft. A lot of Saints fans feel that an improvement at quarterback is one of the most crucial missing pieces to this team, so this mock draft should be welcomed.
With the 14th overall pick that the Saints currently own, Jeremiah has the Saints drafting quarterback Bo Nix out of Oregon, who also spent time at Auburn.
Nix can be somewhat polarizing, primarily due to the fact that he feels like he's been in college forever, but the fact of the matter is, Nix was in the running for the Heisman this past season, and his experience coupled with being 23 (turning 24 in February) should in theory make him more seasoned and mature than the average rookie quarterback.
Should the Saints draft him, he would be more of an adult in the locker room than most incoming draft picks, and if Derek Carr proves not to be the answer, could be a plug and play candidate.
Plus, the Saints have only drafted a quarterback in the first round once, and that was Archie Manning back in 1971. So from that perspective, this type of move is past due.
We have a LONG way to go before the NFL Draft, which means plenty of time for the New Orleans Saints, and fans, to pour over draft data. For now though, this isn't too rough of a start.
