Current Saints who blew the NFL combine out of the water
Every offseason, the NFL world heads to Indianapolis for the annual scouting combine. At the combine, teams get to meet with a ton of draft prospects and also get to see the players work out. While the meetings are major, everyone tunes in for the tests of athleticism. Whether it’s the 40-yard dash or the bench press, everyone wants to see the kind of numbers that the best athletes in the world are posting.
The New Orleans Saints will soon add one of the players currently dominating at the combine, but they already have several players who showed out when they were prospects. Let’s take a look back at some of the best combine performances from current Saints.
Best combine performances from current Saints
40 Yard Dash
- Alontate Taylor- 4.36 (2022)
- Chris Olave- 4.39 (2022)
- Johnathan Abram- 4.45
The Saints have some people on their rosters who have run fast 40 times. Chris Olave’s unofficial 40 time was a 4.26 before being corrected to a 4.39. It is also worth noting that Rashid Shaheed wasn’t invited to the combine. If he were, he would probably be on this list.
10 Yard Split
- Johnathan Abram and Ugo Amadi- 1.48
- Chris Olave and Alontae Taylor- 1.50
- Lonnie Johnson Jr.- 1.53
Not a lot of Saints fans realize how fast Abram was coming out of college. He is a very athletic player and is one who could continue to contribute defensively next year.
Verticle Jump
- Alvin Kamara- 39.5 inches
- Demario Davis and Jimmy Graham- 38.5 inches
- Lonnie Johnson Jr.- 38 inches
Alvin Kamara showed how explosive he is with an incredible 39.5-inch vertical. It is no surprise to see Jimmy Graham on this list as he was a basketball player as well at Miami. Demario Davis showed out as a linebacker putting up a great number.
Broad Jump
- A.T. Perry- 11’1
- Alvin Kamara- 10’11
- Lonnie Johnson Jr.- 10’9
A.T. Perry with a massive broad jump being the only player to have over an 11-foot jump. Kamara continues to show off his explosiveness jumping well here in addition to the vertical jump. Lonnie Johnson Jr. is worth noting as well. He has been 3rd place for the broad jump, the verticle jump, and the 10-yard split.
Bench Press
- Demario Davis- 32 reps
- Cameron Erving- 30 reps
- Erik McCoy- 29 reps
While going through the results, this was the most unexpected result to me. Demario Davis is an absolute unit. Doing 32 reps as a linebacker is an amazing number. Cameron Erving and Erik McCoy, two offensive line players, also put up great numbers in this event.
