Bye week could not come at better time for Saints

The New Orleans Saints are, rather mercifully, on their bye week during week 11, and it honestly could not have come at a more perfect time for the Saints.

Well then. This has certainly been a rather draining season hasn't it? As we enter week 11 of the 2023 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints sit at a record of 5-5, yet somehow atop the NFC South standings. While the first place Saints have a 500 record, it surely doesn't feel like any of those things are a reality.

Simply put, the Saints haven't been good this season. They have been at times, but those times seem too few and far between. They're also banged up beyond recognition health-wise. While bumps and bruises are just an inevitability of football, especially at this point in the season, the fact that the injuries are coming to key players in the lineup has made this journey all the more exhausting to this point.

With all of that being said, this bye week is coming at a totally opportune time for the Saints.

Dennis Allen and company need all the time they can get to regroup and regain focus on the task at hand, as well as the common goal. The team feels all out of sorts, and the extra week of rest, and preparation, should (in theory) help with that.

The extra week should also aid the overall health of the team. Quarterback Derek Carr has been nursing a shoulder issue for a while, and now has a concussion to deal with. Michael Thomas and Marshon Lattimore also left the loss to the Minnesota Vikings with injury, and there's little doubt that all three of these players are crucial to the team's success.

The second-half of this season will be very telling as it pertains to what this New Orleans Saints team is made of. They're getting blessed, if you even want to call it that, with this bye week coming when it is, and they need to make the most of it if they want to take advantage of the opportunity they have in front of them. As a bonus, it gives us a break from watching them as well, so there’s also that little chestnut.
