5 players the Saints missed out on to draft Trevor Penning
I guess not every draft pick is going to be a winner...
George Karlaftis
Eleven picks after Penning landed with the Saints, the Chiefs grabbed George Karlaftis out of Purdue. The defensive end has had a monster start to his NFL career, notching 16.5 sacks in 33 games.
It took Karlaftis a little bit to get going as a rookie but that's not uncommon for rookie pass rushers. He finished the year with 6.0 sacks but showed how much of a beast he could be in year two, tallying 10.5 sacks across 16 starts.
The Saints finished in the bottom five of the league in sacks this season with just 34 to their name. Adding Karlaftis to their pass rush could have made a world of difference for New Orleans' defense and he was still on the board when the front office deemed Penning as a better pick.
