NFL football is back. The Hall of Fame Game is in the books and now that the opener is behind us, the rest of the league is ready to start their preseason. For the New Orleans Saints, they'll host the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, August 13.
As is often the case when it comes to exhibition games, many of the starters won't be on the field. While that might limit the excitement, it does give several backups a chance to prove themselves.
That being said, here are five players on the Saints to keep an eye on during their preseason opener against Kansas City.
5. Lewis Kidd, OL
New Orleans has invested a lot in their offensive line with several first-round picks on the roster. That includes both guards Andrus Peat and Cesar Ruiz and each tackle Ryan Ramczyk and Trevor Penning. The lone second-round pick is Erik McCoy who lines up at center — and in 2022 was the best interior lineman on the team.
McCoy was 23rd in the league at his position according to Pro Football Focus whereas Ruiz was 59th Peat finished 68th.
At this point, the Saints aren't likely to make any major moves. These players are all under contract and were significant investments but that doesn't mean they won't be looking for a replacement down the road. One player who could wind up in that role is Lewis Kidd
An undrafted free agent from Montana State, Kidd performed well as a rookie. He started one game and made appearances in 13 total throughout the year.
Now in year two, it will be worth paying attention to how much growth he's shown as a player.
