4 affordable free-agent targets for Saints this offseason

As the NFL prepares for the start of 2024 free agency, the New Orleans Saints will be looking for affordable players that can still improve the roster.

3. WR Jauan Jennings

Jauan Jennings also played in the most recent Super Bowl but he was on the losing end. Spending his entire four-year career with the San Francisco 49ers, Jennings will be a restricted free agent this offseason. If he’s able to get out of San Francisco he’ll raise his profile on another team.

However, his free agency will be a bit different since he’s a restricted free agent. The 49ers will be able to assign a tender to Jennings. Depending on the tender San Francisco uses, they’ll either receive a draft pick if another team signs Jennings, or they’ll have the chance to match any contract offer that Jennings receives.

Even with this being the case, the Saints should still pursue Jauan Jennings. While Jennings isn’t going to land a big contract, New Orleans may be able to offer a contract that the 49ers can’t match. With San Francisco’s star-studded roster, their cap situation is shaky as well, currently more than $3 million over the cap. With all the players the 49ers will be focused on keeping around long term, they may just have to let Jennings walk.

If that happens, he’ll be a great addition to the Saints. He doesn’t have numbers that’ll get anyone excited, but that’s because he was in an offense with four Pro Bowelrs at the other skill positions. He’s flashed as a receiving threat, he’s a tremendous blocker, and he’s familiar with New Orleans’ new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. All are things the Saints need.
