3 teams that make the most sense for Michael Thomas this late in the offseason
Earlier this offseason, the New Orleans Saints parted ways with 2019 Offensive Player of the Year Michael Thomas. Although he has dealt with several injuries the past few seasons, Thomas is still an elite player who could help most offenses in the league. Even with this being the case, he still has yet to be picked up by a team in free agency.
Here are the three teams that would make the most sense to sign Michael Thomas.
Baltimore Ravens make sense for Michael Thomas
The Ravens are in a situation where they are in a position to compete for the Super Bowl. They have the reigning MVP, quarterback Lamar Jackson, an elite defense, and just added Derrick Henry in free agency. The one position on their roster that could be viewed as lacking would be at wide receiver. It would make sense for them to go into free agency and look for a veteran who can instantly make an impact, such as Michael Thomas.
Outside of Mark Andrews, the Ravens only have two receivers on their roster who played more than 300 snaps this past year (Zay Flowers and Devin Duvernay). Zay Flowers led the team in receiving yards this past year with 858, but no one else had over 600 yards on the team. It is important that the Ravens find another reliable target in addition to Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers. Michael Thomas would fill that role perfectly and could elevate their offense to another level.
Denver Broncos make sense for Michael Thomas
The Broncos differ from the Ravens, as they aren’t in a spot to compete for a championship. The reason why this could be an attractive spot for Michael Thomas is the familiarity that he has with the coaching staff. Thomas had the best years of his career under head coach Sean Payton, the current head coach of the Broncos. In recent years, a multitude of Saints have moved to Denver to play under Payton, Michael Thomas could be the next to do so.
The Broncos do have a more crowded receiver room than what other teams do. His main competition would be Courtland Sutton. Sutton is entering his seventh year in the NFL and plays the X receiver, just as Michael Thomas does. This would create a small obstacle for Thomas but the familiarity with the staff and system could bring together him and the Broncos.
Buffalo Bills make sense for Michael Thomas
The Buffalo Bills would also be an interesting spot for Michael Thomas to land. The most obvious reason would be to give the Bills much needed help at wide receiver. With the departures of Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, and Deonte Harty, the Bills need help at the position. This could lure Thomas to Buffalo as he would receive a major role.
Besides giving Allen an additional target, Michael Thomas could provide valuable veteran leadership and could aid the development of rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman. Coleman was an early second round pick (33rd overall) in the draft this year. He could benefit from having a receiver such as Michael Thomas in the room. This would make the Bills an intriguing destination for Thomas to go to if he so chooses.
