Vibes are high league wide right now for the NFL. With all 32 teams in OTAs, there’s excitement surrounding every franchise. Whether it’s because of a talented rookie, an established veteran joining the team, or the possibility of winning a Super Bowl, all fans, and players, have something to be happy about right now. Unfortunately, this positive wave can only last so long, because soon, teams will start cutting players. Whether it be in training camp or before then, franchises have to start shaping the roster that the team will actually carry into the season.

The New Orleans Saints, who added a ton of depth veterans this offseason, will also have to move on from some guys. The franchise already released Kellen Mond after drafting Spencer Rattler. That was just the start though. Let’s look at three more players whose time in New Orleans could come to an end this summer.

3 Saints players who could be cut this summer

3. QB Nathan Peterman

The Saints currently have four quarterbacks on the roster: Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, and Nathan Peterman. Obviously, New Orleans isn’t going to carry four quarterbacks into the season and Peterman seems like the odd man out. There’s no justifiable reason to keep him over Haener and Rattler, who will compete for the QB2 spot.

2. LB D’Marco Jackson

D’Marco Jackson was recently highlighted as a cut candidate by Bleacher Report and it’s hard not to agree. As Bleacher Report highlighted, New Orleans added several linebackers this offseason, and at least one of them will be cut, possibly more. Jackson will have to fight to hold on to his roster spot, proving his value as a special teams player and a depth linebacker.

1. DE Payton Turner

Payton Turner is entering a make-or-break year for not only his time with the Saints, but his NFL career. Things haven’t panned out for the 2021 first-round pick, with injuries limiting him to just 15 games in three seasons. With Carl Granderson emerging, Chase Young joining the team, and Cam Jordan still hanging around, Turner might not make it to his fourth season with the Saints.
