Saints should re-sign WR Keith Kirkwood

The third player that New Orleans should bring back for another year is wide receiver Keith Kirkwood. Kirkwood isn’t a guy who will light up the stat sheet; this past year, he only caught five catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. However, his role as a pass catcher isn’t the reason that the Saints should bring him back.

Kirkwood is a willing blocker, which new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will likely need due to his offensive system. In that wide zone run concept, run blockers, at the wide receiver position especially, are needed. Kirkwood could play that role for the Saints and wouldn’t be expensive to bring back.

With the run game really needing to improve for the Saints offense, this would be the main draw to bring Kirkwood back to New Orleans. Although it wouldn’t be the flashiest pick up, it is one that the Saints could and should do.
