2. Saints were wise to avoid receiver Calvin Ridley

Wide receiver is another position that New Orleans has to address, especially since Michael Thomas is now a free agent. Calvin Ridley was one of the biggest free agent wideouts this offseason. Starting his career with the Atlanta Falcons, Ridley was one of the best young receivers in the league throughout his first three seasons.

In year four, his career hit some hurdles and he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In one season with Jacksonville, Ridley played in all 17 games, catching 76 passes for 1,016 yards, and eight touchdowns. However, entering free agency, there was a bit of a mixed reputation surrounding Ridley the player.

Still, Ridley ultimately signed with the Tennessee Titans, signing a four-year deal worth $92 million. It was a contract that caught the NFL world off guard, with many people thinking Tennessee overpaid Ridley. However, the Titans and Calvin Ridley are both happy with the deal, so that’s what matters.

Calvin Ridley absolutely would’ve been a great addition to the Saints. Pairing him with Chris Olave would’ve really elevated New Orleans’ offense. However, seeing the price range that it took to land Ridley makes it clear that New Orleans shouldn’t have been in the mix.
