3 biggest overreactions to Saints Week 2 win
The NFL is two weeks into the regular season and no team has looked as good as the New Orleans Saints. After defeating the Dallas Cowboys 44-19, New Orleans looks like a complete team that has everything necessary to contend for a Super Bowl. This reality has led to something dangerous: fans developing hope.
Every sports fan that has lived through the highs and lows of their favorite team knows how bittersweet having hope is. On one hand, things are looking up. On the other hand, disappointment only hurts more once it arrives.
Fortunately, the Saints haven’t disappointed fans yet, and it doesn’t seem like they’re going to anytime soon. With that being the case, let’s take a look at some lofty overreactions to the team’s hot start.
3. Derek Carr will win MVP
What a turnaround this would be for Derek Carr. Just a couple of season ago, Carr was abandoned by the Las Vegas Raiders. Entering this season, the veteran quarterback didn’t even have the support of Saints fans. None of that stopped him from starting the year on fire.
Through two games, he has completed 30-of-39 passes for 443 yards, a league-high five touchdowns, and just one interception. He also has one rushing touchdown. If he keeps playing like this, and New Orleans keeps winning, he’ll undoubtedly be in the MVP race.
2. Alvin Kamara will rush for 1,000 yards for the fast time in his career
It’s hard to believe Alvin Kamara has never rushed for 1,000 yards in a single season, but he hasn’t. Despite being a five-time Pro Bowler, and one of the best running backs of his era, he hasn’t accomplished the thing that’s common for running backs of his caliber.
That has a lot to do with how he’s been used by the Saints throughout his career, but the way he’s being used now will certainly give him the chance to hit 1,000 yards. Through two games, he already has 35 carries for 198 yards and a league-high four touchdowns. He also has 92 receiving yards and an additional touchdown.
If health is on Kamara’s, and the offensive line’s, side, he’ll finally rush for more than 1,000 yards.
1. Saints will finish regular season with league-best record
Just two weeks ago, people were predicting New Orleans would finish with one of the worst records in the league. With two wins in two weeks, it’d take a catastrophic collapse from New Orleans for those predictions to come true.
Looking at how the Saints have played, and the rest of their schedule, it’s more likely New Orleans will finish with the best record in the league. New Orleans entered the season with the easiest schedule in the NFL, and they quickly proved they can score and stop people from scoring.
Being realistic, not every game is going to look like the first two, but it’s hard to look at the remaining schedule and find many outright losses, if New Orleans is playing near the level they’ve played so far.
