PFF’s Trevor Sikkema ranked every team's quarterback and pass catching duo before the 2025 NFL season. Due to the uncertainty at quarterback, the Saints rank near the bottom of the list. Sikkema notes Chris Olave’s upside but is wary of Tyler Shough as the starter.
Chris Olave is not the problem
The Saints were ranked at No. 31, just above the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, this list was made before the news of Aaron Rodgers signing. It’s likely the Saints would be last if the article was written a few days later.
Olave isn’t the reason the Saints are ranked so low. In fact, Sikkema praised the three year veteran. He believes the former first round pick has the talent to be a premier receiver in the NFL.
“Olave has the talent to be a top-10 receiver in the NFL, having earned PFF receiving grades of 82.9, 82.9 and 83.0 in the past three seasons.”
Olave has been productive early in his career. He reached over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons. He was on pace for another great year before suffering two concussions in 2024. After being sidelined for the end of the season, Olave is back at full health. If he can stay on the field, he’s in line for a big 2025 campaign.
Questions about Tyler Shough bring down Saints' ranking
Sikkema is cautious about the starting quarterback for the Saints in 2025. He only referenced Tyler Shough, but Spencer Rattler isn’t out of the running. The uncertainty of the room is what scares the national media. No one in it is established. Rattler has the most experience with six games started. Whoever the starter is will have a lot to prove.
The Saints placed low in Trevor Sikkema’s ranking of quarterback and pass catching duos, largely due to that uncertainty under center. Olave has enough talent to help the quarterback, but has to stay healthy. If he does, that duo could surprise a lot of people in 2025.
