Panthers are switching up their quarterback plans ahead of Week 9 game against Saints
After the New Orleans Saints walloped the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, winning 47-10, not many people imagined the Week 9 matchup between these two teams would be a battle among a couple of the worst teams in the league. However, that’s exactly what it’s going to be.
The Saints will enter the game at 2-6, and the Panthers will enter at 1-7. Since Week 1, both squads have a 1-6 record. That’s not the only similarity entering Sunday’s game, though. Both teams are going back to their day-one starting quarterbacks for Sunday’s game.
Derek Carr will be back in the lineup after missing three weeks with an oblique injury, and the Panthers have decided to make second-year quarterback Bryce Young their starter again.
Bryce Young will start for Panthers against Saints
Young started for Carolina in Week 8, but only because Andy Dalton was sidelined with a thumb injury he sustained in a car accident. However, Dalton is now healthy, but the Panthers announced they’re sticking with Young at quarterback.
Bryce Young was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but after a rookie season that only resulted in two wins, and two underwhelming games in the first two weeks of this season, Young was benched for Dalton. However, Dalton didn’t make much of a difference, as the Panthers went 1-4 during his starts.
In Week 8, Young’s third start this season, he completed 24-of-37 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, in a 28-14 loss to the Denver Broncos. He had some promising moments throughout the game, and he’ll try to build on those moving forward.
The Saints aren’t trying to be a stepping stone in this redemption arc. New Orleans has loss six straight games, and is desperate for a win. The team will certainly be ready to get the best of Bryce Young and a struggling Panthers team.
