New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Chris Olave returned to practice, after suffering a back injury during Wednesday’s session. His participation is a positive sign, indicating that he is likely on track to play in Sunday’s road matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The wide receiver is currently listed as questionable

Olave has been very durable for the Saints this season, appearing in all 11 games, already surpassing his total from last year, when his availability was a concern heading into this season. That availability has made him a consistent and reliable presence in the Saints passing attack for Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler.

If he is cleared to play, it’s great news for the leagues last ranked scoring offense, especially with star running back Alvin Kamara already ruled out.  Without Olave, things could’ve gotten ugly in a hurry.  The Saints will need him in uniform as they take on a Dolphins defense that ranks 12th in the NFL in passing yards allowed, firmly in the top half of the league.

Chris Olave’s presence key for Tyler Shough against Dolphins

Olave has totaled 69 receptions for 734 yards and 4 touchdowns this season.  After a slow start, he has found his rhythm and re-established himself as New Orleans most reliable playmaker. He is now on pace to surpass 1,000 receiving yards for the third time in four seasons.

Olave's consistency has been a rare bright spot in a stagnant offense.  With the Saints leaning heavily on their rookie quarterback, Olave’s presence remains crucial to sustain any offensive momentum.

The Saints need Olave on the field to continue to build chemistry with their rookie quarterback. Every rep Olave and Shough get together is valuable, building chemistry, timing, and trust with one another. As Shough grows more comfortable in the offense, having a dependable playmaker like Olave becomes even more important. He gives Shough a security blanket, accelerating his growth and giving the offense a potential spark as the Saints try to establish consistency moving forward.
