The weird situation between the New Orleans Saints and their star running back Alvin Kamara is still no closer to a resolution. Now on pace to still exist by June, there's been another trade partner to popped up.

Suggested by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report, the reigning AFC South champions are a team that could use his experience and resume. "The team lost Etienne in free agency, and while Jacksonville signed Chris Rodriguez Jr. and has second-year pro Bhayshul Tuten on the roster, Rodriguez has never logged 120 carries in a season, and Tuten averaged just 3.7 yards per carry as a rookie... Kamara would be an inexpensive insurance policy if those young backs cannot get the job done."

The Jaguars are a team that's familiar to the Saints. Just last year, they traded for their center Luke Fortner in exchange for defensive tackle Khalen Saunders. They also signed their former starting running back Travis Etienne this past offseason. A trade that worked out and a signing that hopefully should doesn't mean that the Saints should go ahead and trade one of the best halfbacks in franchise history, especially for the 2027 fifth-round pick that Davenport is suggesting.

The Saints should nip this Alvin Kamara situation in the bud

A fifth-round pick for a running back like Alvin Kamara almost seems insulting after the career he's had in New Orleans. But they'll likely get that kind of deal because the main part of free agency and the offseason have finished. That, plus the distraction it will undoubtedly bring if this heads into training camp, is another reason New Orleans needs to address this situation as soon as possible.

If they do trade him, the only way they'd be able to raise his value is if it were a trade made during the season. A relatively healthy Kamara, which he should be as he's sharing snaps again, would also have to be on the table. If he's just as battered as he was last year, then his value will stay at that fifth-round area. If he's healthy, that means that he'll also be able to produce for whoever might need him to, Saints or no Saints.

This situation is also just plain confusing. Kamara said just a few weeks ago that he'd be back soon, but Kellen Moore and Co. have remained mum on the subject. Hopefully it receives some resolution soon and not in the form of a trade. There's not really a price you could put on the running back anyway; he's practically priceless to the city and the organization.
